WHO ATTENDS?
Our coffee meetups are open to parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. Some families are just beginning their journey, while others have years of experience navigating services, benefits, school systems, and adulthood.
WHERE ARE MEETUPS HELD?
Meetups are typically held in the conference room on the second floor of the Walnut Creek Library. The room comfortably accommodates up to 16 participants. If attendance exceeds capacity, an alternative location will be secured and shared with participants in advance.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MEETUP?
We begin by introducing ourselves and sharing a little about our families. From there, the conversation develops naturally as parents discuss what's going well, current challenges, helpful resources, programs, services, school experiences, and everyday caregiving realities.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
You don't need to bring anything to participate. You may wish to bring your own beverage and snack, questions you'd like to ask, or resources that have been helpful to your family. If you'd like, you're welcome to bring a treat to share with the group.
ARE FOOD AND DRINKS ALLOWED?
Yes. Food and beverages are allowed in the conference room. Donuts, plates, and napkins will be provided. There is also a café downstairs where attendees can purchase drinks or snacks to bring upstairs.
HOW LONG DO MEETUPS LAST?
Coffee Meetups typically last about two hours. You do not have to stress about being right on time. You do not have to stay for the entire time. After the meetup, many participants choose to continue the conversation over lunch at a nearby restaurant. Lunch is optional, and attendees are responsible for purchasing their own meal.
WHAT ABOUT PARKING?
Paid parking is available in the library parking garage. Parking can typically be paid using coins, credit or debit card, tap-to-pay, or the parking app. Please plan accordingly before arriving.
WHY ATTEND?
Many parents find that one of the most valuable resources they discover is other parents. Coffee Meetups provide an opportunity to connect with people who understand the challenges, victories, and realities of raising a loved one with a disability.
Parents often leave with new information, new friendships, and a renewed sense that they are not navigating this journey alone.
